Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns Trump Withholding Title X funding from Planned Parenthood
Washington, DC — Today, the Trump administration informed reproductive health care providers that their Title X funding is being temporarily withheld. Title X is the only federal funding program dedicated solely to providing family planning services in the United States. Its providers offer essential health services—such as birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing and treatment—to young people and adults who have low incomes. During his first presidency, Trump implemented a rule that decimated the program by implementing coercive counseling requirements, prohibiting referrals for abortion, and denying funds to organizations that provided abortion services which resulted in reducing the Title X national family planning network’s patient capacity by half.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:
“The Trump administration is pandering to anti-abortion, religious extremists and trying to dismantle Title X, the nation’s safety net family planning program. Planned Parenthood is the most trusted healthcare for millions of Americans providing access to birth control and life-saving cancer screenings. And many more family planning clinics will lose critical funding for communities that need it most. But let’s be clear: this is a deeply unpopular and politically-motivated attack on Planned Parenthood and reproductive freedom that will disproportionately harm families who are already struggling to make ends meet and we will not stand for it.”
