Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns Trump’s Indictment of New York Attorney General Tish James
Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All condemned Donald Trump’s Department of Justice for its politically motivated indictment of New York Attorney General Tish James—a blatant abuse of power and an alarming escalation in Trump’s campaign to weaponize federal law enforcement against those who hold him accountable.
Trump’s DOJ has crossed a line that no president has crossed before, ordering a baseless prosecution of a duly elected state attorney general for doing her job. His actions follow his public attacks on AG James and the firing of the U.S. attorney who refused to carry out his vendetta.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“AG Tish James has shown unwavering courage in standing up for justice, democracy, and reproductive freedom, and now Donald Trump is trying to punish her for it. He is using the Department of Justice as his personal weapon. This isn’t about justice. It’s about revenge. Trump’s corruption threatens every freedom we hold dear—from our right to vote to our right to control our own bodies. We are with AG James and every leader fighting to defend the rule of law and protect our democracy from his abuse of power.”
AG James has long been a champion for reproductive freedom. She has led efforts defending access to medication abortion, fought to protect patients and providers from extremist harassment, and has taken on crisis pregnancy centers spreading disinformation. Her leadership has made New York a national model for safeguarding abortion access, especially for those forced to travel from states where care is banned.
