Reproductive Freedom for All Endorses Jocelyn Benson for Michigan Governor

Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson in her bid for Michigan Governor. Benson has a proven record of standing up for reproductive freedom, including her leadership in support of Proposal 3, Michigan’s constitutional amendment protecting abortion rights, which voters passed decisively in 2022.

State governors are the frontline defense for reproductive freedom and play a critical role in enforcing protections for abortion access across the country. In Michigan, that responsibility is especially clear: despite overwhelming voter support for reproductive freedom, anti-abortion extremists in the state legislature and in Congress continue to push legislation restricting access to reproductive care and gutting critical public health programs including Title X and Medicaid, threatening the health and economic security of families across the state.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“Michiganders voted to protect reproductive freedom in their state constitution, and Jocelyn Benson understands that leadership means enforcing those protections, not undermining them. Jocelyn has been open about how her own experience with miscarriage informs her fierce advocacy for reproductive freedom, and that shows up in her leadership. As Trump and his allies work to ban abortion nationwide and roll back all of our rights and freedoms, governors are a critical line of defense. Michigan families deserve a leader who will fight every day to protect their freedom to make their own health care decisions, and Jocelyn Benson is that leader.”

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Michigan Campaigns Shanay Watson-Whittaker released the following statement:

“Michigan’s next governor must be an unequivocal champion for reproductive freedom, and Jocelyn Benson is the only candidate in this race who will stand up to Donald Trump and protect our fundamental rights. In 2022, Michiganders did the work to pass Prop 3, but that hasn’t stopped anti-abortion extremists from trying to claw back our rights and restrict abortion access. We need a governor who will fight to uphold the protections voters demanded, and Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan is ready to mobilize our 149,000 members to elect Jocelyn Benson.”

Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson released the following statement:

“The emotional impact of experiencing a miscarriage will stay with me my whole life, but so will the firsthand knowledge of how critical timely reproductive healthcare is and the deeper understanding of the struggles countless women face. It’s why I’m honored to be endorsed by Reproductive Freedom for All – an organization that understands how essential comprehensive reproductive care is for women’s health, helping families stay safe and supported during challenging times. I’m proud that Michigan has enshrined this right to care in our constitution, and as governor, I’ll fight to make sure these rights are as accessible in all areas of Michigan as they are on paper.”

Reproductive Freedom for All recently endorsed Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs and Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford in their respective bids for governor, and launched its first slate of U.S. Senate endorsements in the 2026 cycle—backing candidates who will protect reproductive freedom in Congress, statehouses, and governors’ offices nationwide.
