Reproductive Freedom for All Georgia Responds to Brian Kemp’s Legacy of Anti-Abortion Extremism

Atlanta, GA – Today, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp delivered his State of the State address, where he attempted to tout his “accomplishments” while failing to address the tremendous harm he has caused in Georgia, including:

  • Signing into law a deadly abortion ban and openly supporting the overturning of Roe v. Wade
  • Refusing to expand Medicaid, creating massive health care deserts across the state and worsening Georgia’s already devastating maternal mortality rate
  • Expressing openness to ban birth control and further restrict essential reproductive health care.

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Georgia Campaigns Alicia Stallworth released the following statement:

“Brian Kemp’s legacy in Georgia is his extreme abortion ban that has killed mothers and torn families apart. With blood on his hands, he has sown fear and confusion across the state, forcing doctors to withhold lifesaving care in fear of facing prosecution for doing their jobs.

As he leaves office, Kemp leaves Georgia with fewer rural hospitals, less access to care,  and one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country. Georgians will continue to suffer the consequences of Kemp’s failed leadership long after his tenure ends.”
