Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan Calls on Oakland County Board of Commissioners to Vote Yes on Emergency Planned Parenthood Funding

Lansing, MI — The Oakland County Board of Commissioners is set to vote this Thursday on a $1.9 million emergency funding plan to prevent the closure of the Ferndale Health Center, and Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan is calling on commissioners to vote yes.

Ferndale Health Center is the only physical health center in Oakland County. Shuttering its doors would leave a gap in the health care landscape that no other provider is positioned to fill. Three additional Planned Parenthood clinics in Michigan closed just last week in Livonia, Lansing, and Warren counties – Michiganders cannot lose more access to critical preventative and reproductive healthcare services.

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Michigan Campaigns Shanay Watson-Whittaker released the following statement:

“Planned Parenthood clinics are a lifeline for patients across Michigan to access life-saving healthcare. The closure of these clinics will force Michiganders to travel further and take time off of work and from their families to access the care they need. As the only physical health center in Oakland County, the Ferndale Health Center is essential, and commissioners must pass this critical funding to keep its doors open.”

Trump and his administration cut funding for Planned Parenthood clinics, as well as cut nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid funding, through the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” These cuts have directly impacted the Ferndale Health Center—as well as countless other clinics and care centers across the country. Widening health care deserts threaten access to essential reproductive healthcare, including birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing, prenatal referrals, and abortion care.
