Reproductive Freedom for All: Pam Bondi’s Confirmation is a ‘Slippery Slope’ to Blocking Abortion Nationwide
Washington, DC — Today, Pam Bondi was confirmed as Trump’s attorney general. Bondi has a proven track record of supporting harmful, burdensome, and unnecessary barriers to abortion care. She defended numerous anti-abortion laws during her time as Florida’s Attorney General, including a mandatory delay for abortion care, a law that prohibited state funds from being allocated to clinics affiliated with abortion providers, and a law that required parental notification and consent before a young person could access abortion care. Additionally, she joined an amicus brief in the landmark Supreme Court case Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstadt where she argued in support of allowing unnecessary restrictions on abortion care to continue. She also joined other anti-reproductive freedom attorneys general in challenging the groundbreaking contraception coverage provision in the Affordable Care Act.
As attorney general, Bondi will be responsible for enforcing federal laws, including those with a direct impact on reproductive and civil rights—such as the DOJ’s interpretation and enforcement of the Comstock Act and prosecuting violations of federal emergency abortion care protections. During Trump’s first week in office, he kickstarted this agenda by pardoning over 20 anti-abortion radicals who violated a federal law that protects abortion providers and patients from violence and harassment, in addition to directing the DOJ to no longer enforce that law to protect abortion access. Project 2025 outlines how Bondi, in her role as attorney general, can call on the administration and federal agencies to effectively ban abortion across the country—with or without the support of Congress.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Pam Bondi’s confirmation is a slippery slope that could pave the way to effectively banning abortion nationwide. Bondi has a track record of blind loyalism to Trump and a blueprint from Project 2025 to block abortion access across the country. Our senators need to be fighting for us, not rubber-stamping Trump’s dangerous cabinet nominations. We urge every Senator to oppose all of Trump’s extreme cabinet picks.”
