Reproductive Freedom for All Responds to Arizona State Republicans Blocking Repeal of Extreme Abortion Ban
Washington, DC — Today, Arizona Republicans in the state legislature again blocked an effort to repeal the state’s 1864 abortion ban. These efforts are being led by state Democrats after the Arizona Supreme Court upheld a 160-year-old near-total abortion ban, one of the most extreme bans in the country, last week.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Trump and MAGA Republicans cannot untangle themselves from the mess they’ve created. They are extremists through and through, and by blocking this effort today, they’re proving it. This total abortion ban will wage untold harm on Arizonans if it is allowed to go into effect. The state legislature must act immediately to ensure it never has the chance to.”
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Arizona Campaigns Athena Salman released the following statement:
“The lack of urgency and response from Arizona Republicans to stop this ban from taking effect is despicable. Their reckless inaction will put people in life-threatening situations and force many to flee the state for the care that they need. We must do everything in our power to stop this dangerous abortion ban. We have an opportunity in the state senate to repeal this ban, and the house must follow. The 9 out of 10 Arizonans who support the legal right to abortion demand to be heard— and the time to listen is now.”
