Reproductive Freedom for All Responds to John James’ Advancement to November Ballot for Michigan Governor
Lansing, MI — Republican U.S. Rep. John James has officially advanced to the November ballot in Michigan’s gubernatorial election, setting up a general election that puts reproductive freedom and access to health care on the line. James is an anti-abortion extremist who previously stated he is “100% pro-life,” compared abortion to genocide, and recently received Trump’s endorsement in his bid for governor.
Throughout his time in the U.S. House, James has consistently backed policies to defund and restrict access to reproductive health care. In 2025, James proudly voted for Trump’s deadly budget bill, which gutted funding for Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health care clinics across the country and stripped health care coverage away from millions of Michiganders.
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Michigan Campaigns Shanay Watson-Whittaker released the following statement:
“John James has been at odds with Michigan voters for years. We enshrined reproductive freedom into our constitution. If he thinks we will accept his Trump-endorsed anti-abortion agenda, he’s wrong. Michiganders have not forgotten that James voted to rip their health care away and force clinics serving our communities to close their doors. His record is disqualifying, and voters will make that clear at the ballot box this November when they elect Jocelyn Benson for governor.”
