Reproductive Freedom for All Responds to Senate Republicans’ “Plan” to Let Health Care Costs Skyrocket While Demanding New Abortion Coverage Restrictions
Washington, DC — Today, GOP Senate leadership announced a vote on a partisan proposal that fails to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits that millions of families rely on. The bill by Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Mike Crapo (R-ID) undermines the ACA’s critical protections and would further restrict coverage for abortion and gender-affirming care.
Meanwhile, Senate Democrats have committed to rejecting Republicans’ plan and proposed a clean three-year extension of the ACA enhanced premium tax credits to provide stability for 22 million Americans and avert a catastrophic spike in health care costs next month. Both parties’ proposals are set for a Senate vote this Thursday, December 11.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“The Cassidy-Crapo bill is not a serious proposal, but a political stunt meant to give Republicans cover for refusing to support an actual solution to the health care crisis they created. Instead of backing a common-sense clean extension of the ACA tax credits that their constituents depend on, Republicans are once again pandering to anti-abortion extremists. This so-called plan is just a cynical ploy to justify doing nothing while families brace for crushing premiums. It’s time for lawmakers to do their jobs and pass a clean extension of the ACA tax credits immediately.”
