Reproductive Freedom for All’s Statement on the Bombing of A Fertility Clinic in Palm Springs, California
Washington, DC — Following multiple reports of an explosion outside of a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California, Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“While we wait to learn more details about the circumstances and motivations for this attack, what we do know is that there is a history of violence targeting reproductive health centers fueled by extremism in this country. This tragedy underscores why we need the FACE Act to ensure these practitioners, patients, and their communities remain safe. And it’s a critical reminder of what’s at stake if the Trump Administration fails to enforce this law and if Members of Congress continue to work to repeal it.”
Background on the FACE Act:
Enacted after an abortion provider was murdered by an anti-abortion extremist, the FACE Act has been a critical safeguard against anti-abortion violence and harassment for over thirty years. Passed in 1994, the bill had support from both Democrats and Republicans, including Mitch McConnell.
Congressional Republicans moved to repeal the FACE Act in the same week that Trump pardoned a group of extremists who were found guilty of anti-abortion harassment or violence. Among the anti-abortion groups calling for the repeal of the bill is the think tank behind Project 2025, the Trump administration’s blueprint for decimating reproductive freedom. Trump’s new Justice Department also issued an order to curtail prosecutions under the FACE Act — before Trump’s nominee to head the department, anti-abortion extremist Pam Bondi, had even been confirmed.
For over 55 years, Reproductive Freedom for All (formerly NARAL Pro-Choice America) has fought to protect and advance reproductive freedom at the federal and state levels—including access to abortion care, birth control, pregnancy and post-partum care, and paid family leave—for everybody. Reproductive Freedom for All is powered by its more than 4 million members from every state and congressional district in the country, representing the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion.
