Activism 101 Toplines
Between the Trump administration’s never-ending attacks on reproductive freedom and the need to keep tabs on what’s happening in the world, it’s easy to feel exhausted and burned out in the fight to protect our rights.
That’s why we wanted to help you take a break from the doom scrolling—and share some content that is giving us hope, a renewed sense of purpose in our work, and a fresh outlook on advocacy in the midst of this chaotic Trump era.
Republican control in all three branches of the federal government is scary—but we can’t forget that our allies are tirelessly fighting to protect reproductive rights from extremist attacks.
Our favorite recent example? Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) sent a strong message to Republicans about the need to protect and expand access to IVF:
Sen. Duckworth’s comments were in response to Trump’s useless executive order on in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
The executive order makes no policy changes, has no mention of a coverage mandate, and does functionally nothing. It was just a performative action meant to distract you from the fact that the GOP supports restricting access to IVF. While they pretend to support access to IVF, they have actively voted down legislation that would protect access to IVF—including Sen. Duckworth’s amendment.
Our new response to anti-abortion extremists’ empty promises: “It’s time to put up or shut up.” Thanks for the inspo, Senator.
To successfully fight back against attacks on our rights, we need to build a winning coalition. All of our intersectional work—civil rights, gender justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, racial justice, and immigrant rights—are connected in our effort to achieve reproductive freedom.
Reality TV star Jonathan Van Ness (JVN) shared the importance of allyship and coalition-building in this video:
JVN really popped off with this: “[Queer allyship] isn’t an LGBTQ thing, this is an everybody thing.”
“Even though I’m not personally affected by abortion, I advocate for abortion access,” they go on to say. “Women and birthing people deserve the right to health care that they deem correct for themselves.”
Building a coalition to protect reproductive freedom is going to take all of us—including men who understand the stakes of this fight. Spreading awareness and correcting misconceptions about key reproductive freedom issues will be crucial to protecting our rights.
This Instagram collab from @roevbros and @NowThisImpact drives home how important education is for advocacy:
Preparing for the road ahead is going to take more than just strategic planning and coalition-building—it’s going to require taking care of ourselves, too. Finding a balance is hard, especially when we’re so passionate about the work we’re doing, but it’s vital to our collective success.
This collab from @NowThis Impact and @VoteSaveAmerica highlights ways people take a break from advocacy—so they can sustain their work and stay motivated on the tasks ahead:

Our President and CEO, Mini Timmaraju, caught up with Deja Foxx’s Girls on the Ground to share her advice on how to take on the next four years:
You heard Mini—the energy feels pretty damn good. We need to capitalize on the fact that the majority of Americans disapprove of anti-abortion extremists’ plan to dismantle reproductive freedom. But we need your help to do this.
We know the task at hand is going to be hard, but we will keep calling out attacks on our reproductive freedom and develop new strategies to combat anti-abortion extremists’ attempts to roll back all of the progress we’ve made.
We know we have the majority on our side and we’re ready to take action. And we need you with us in this fight.
