August Recess in California: Protesting GOP Lawmakers for Medicaid Cuts

In California and across the country, Reproductive Freedom for All supporters held their extremist lawmakers accountable for slashing Medicaid during August recess.

🔍 A Closer Look: California Republican Lawmakers Voted for a Deadly Bill

Earlier this year, Republican lawmakers in Congress, including California  U.S. Rep. Ken Calvert, U.S. Rep. Young Kim, and U.S. Rep David Valadao, knowingly voted to take lifesaving health care away from over 10 million Americans across the country, severely cutting funding for Medicaid and “defunding” Planned Parenthood.

During August recess and beyond, we’re fighting back against extremist lawmakers who are voting against the people.

⚠️ The Stakes: Reproductive Health Care and Abortion Access Gutted

Planned Parenthood clinics have already closed this year because of previous Trump administration budget cuts.

And let’s not forget—this bill pushes us closer toward a nationwide backdoor abortion ban. The provision to “defund” Planned Parenthood could cause more than 200 clinics to close nationwide, including clinics in states where abortion is legal.

When clinics close, it will reduce people’s access to abortion care, in addition to birth control, cancer screenings, and other health care services.

Rep. Kim and Rep. Calvert have tried to spin this bill as harmless—but Californians aren’t buying it.

We rallied outside Rep. Kim’s office, reminding her of her broken promise not to cut health care.  In Valadao and Calvert’s districts, we plastered “Missing Person” flyers and projections calling them out for hiding from constituents.

Meanwhile, our supporters kept showing up—meeting with the representatives who are championing reproductive freedom, and spreading the truth about how devastating this bill will be.
