Virginia’s April 21 Redistricting Election: Vote YES for Fair Elections

VOTING IS UNDERWAY: Virginia’s redistricting ballot measure fights GOP gerrymandering and protects reproductive freedom

⚡ TL; DR (too long, didn’t read)

There’s a critical election on Tuesday, April 21 in Virginia—voting is underway.

Virginians will vote on a ballot measure to temporarily redraw the state’s congressional maps. Vote YES for fair elections!

Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of democracy, but Trump and his allies are trying to rig the system—redrawing maps in states like Texas and Florida to favor Republican candidates—without voters’ consent.

This is our chance to fight back.

By voting YES, Virginians can level the playing field, protect our democracy and push back against a coordinated power grab ahead of the 2025 midterms.

🔎 Voting YES on Virginia’s Redistricting Measure is a Vote for Fair Elections

Trump’s been pressuring his allies to protect the GOP’s razor-slim House majority—by manipulating congressional maps.

And several GOP-controlled states have already redrawn their maps to favor Republicans, including Texas, North Carolina, Missouri, and Ohio.

This is part of a larger trend of Trump and his allies attacking voting rights and democracy from every angle.

Virginia’s redistricting measure is a direct response.

Virginia’s ballot measure is about restoring fairness amid Trump-directed, Republican-led efforts to stack the deck and rig the midterms.

After sweeping victories last November, Virginia voters have an opportunity to act. This measure would temporarily redraw Virginia’s congressional districts to level the playing field and protect the integrity of the 2026 midterms.

Voting YES stops the power grab, and puts voters in charge.

🤿 Dive Deeper: What Virginia’s Redistricting Measure Actually Does

This amendment is a one-time fix designed for this moment.

  • It allows for temporary redistricting to counteract partisan gerrymandering in other states
  • It preserves Virginia’s bipartisan redistricting process, which resumes in 2030
  • It ensures voters—not politicians—have the final say

Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers across the country are pushing extreme gerrymandering as part of a coordinated effort to gut voting rights, rig the elections, and cling to power.

There’s even been an effort to send misleading texts and mailers to confuse Virginia voters about what measure does—and who supports it.

Here’s the truth:

  • This measure is a direct response to Trump’s effort to rig the elections nationwide
  • Virginians will be able to review the proposed maps
  • Voters—not politicians—will decide the election

⚠️  The Stakes: Why this Matters Nationwide

The GOP knows they can’t win fairly in 2026 so they’re trying to rewrite the rules.

If they succeed, they’ll maintain power not by winning votes but by manipulating maps.

And the consequences are real.

If Trump and his allies hold power, they will continue attacking reproductive freedom: abortion, IVF, birth control, and so much more.

Voting YES is about stopping that agenda.

This is about protecting democracy and ensuring that our elected officials are accountable to voters.

🛩️ The Big Picture: Fighting Against Project 2025

Attacks on reproductive freedom and attacks on democracy go hand in hand. Extremist Republican lawmakers are working to ban abortion nationwide, and voter suppression is just one part of their plan.

But in Virginia, voters are pushing back.

Recent elections delivered a reproductive freedom majoritystate lawmakers committed to protecting rights. Those champions include Governor Abigail Spanberger, Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi, and Attorney General Jay Jones.

These wins position Virginia as a critical access point for abortion care—and set the state for even bigger protections ahead.

This November, Virginians will vote on a constitutional amendment to enshrine the fundamental right to reproductive health care, including abortion, in the state constitution.

The redistricting vote in April is the first step in protecting that future.
