Key Takeaways in this Episode
  • Troy Jackson: Reproductive freedom is a personal decision, not a political one. The former Maine Senate president reflects on his evolution from opposing abortion rights to championing expanded protections, and why politicians should never come between patients and their doctors.
  • Christina Hines: Protecting reproductive freedom goes hand in hand with protecting families. Drawing on her experience as a prosecutor and mother, Hines connects abortion rights to economic security, affordable health care, education, and safer communities. Her message: “We are never powerless. We have a voice. We have a vote.”

  • Dr. Amish Shah: Politicians have no place in the exam room. The emergency room physician discusses the consequences of abortion restrictions, the fight to protect medication abortion, and why safeguarding the doctor-patient relationship is essential to meaningful reproductive freedom.

Election Day 2026 is here.

With control of Congress on the line, reproductive freedom, affordability, and health care access are among the issues shaping the country’s most consequential races.

In this special Election Day episode of My Body. My Pod. Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju brings together conversations with three endorsed candidates championing reproductive freedom in Maine, Michigan, and Arizona.

Troy Jackson – U.S. Senate (Maine) Endorsed Candidate

From fifth-generation logger and labor organizer to Maine Senate president, Troy Jackson has spent his career fighting for the working class. He opens up about his evolution on abortion rights and his journey to becoming a fierce advocate for reproductive freedom in Maine.

“I’m a logger. I shouldn’t be deciding somebody’s health care,” says Jackson. “This is not my decision. It’s not the government’s decision.”

Jackson’s opponent is Sen. Susan Collins whose decisive vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court helped pave the way for overturning Roe v. Wade.

Christina Hines – U.S. House (Michigan’s 10th District) Endorsed Candidate

Former prosecutor and mother Christina Hines discusses how her experience prosecuting sexual assault and child abuse cases shaped her commitment to protecting women and families.

“We are never powerless. We have a voice. We have a vote,” she says.

She connects safe communities to affordability, economic opportunity, education, comprehensive health care, and of course, reproductive freedom. She’s running against Michael Bouchard, who tried to hide his anti-abortion record in the lead up to Election Day.

Dr. Amish Shah – U.S. House (Arizona’s 1st District) Endorsed Candidate

Emergency room physician and former Arizona state lawmaker Dr. Amish Shah has seen firsthand what happens when politicians interfere in medical decisions, and he’s a reproductive freedom champion.

“Patients have to feel comfortable that you are their advocate. That’s a special bond between physician and patient,” he says. “The last thing you want is the government getting in the middle of that.”

He discusses the consequences of abortion restrictions for patients and providers, the fight to protect medication abortion, and why constitutional protections alone don’t guarantee access to care.
