Fast Politics Podcast: Mini Timmaraju Joins Molly Jong-Fast to Discuss the Midterms, Todd Blanche, and New Battleground Research

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju sat down with Molly Jong-Fast on the Fast Politics podcast to discuss key races to watch and how abortion remains a defining issue for voters heading into the midterms.

Timmaraju noted that the salience of abortion is growing as November nears: “As we go into the general election where we have actual contrast between Democrats and Republicans on this issue, you’re going to see [abortion] come back up because they have to win these fights.” New research backs that up — nearly half of likely voters in battleground states say a candidate’s support for a national abortion ban is a dealbreaker, while eight in ten said that it is important that lawmakers protect access to reproductive healthcare. Candidates from Maine to Michigan are already talking about reproductive freedom as they pivot to general elections, and ballot measures in Kansas and Missouri recently reaffirmed the power of abortion on the ballot. Timmaraju argued: “If you talk to any candidate in the cycle, it’s one of the most — if not the most — salient closer.”

Timmaraju also noted that reproductive freedom actually helped Democratic candidates in 2024 and 2025: “We’ve been fighting this perception that abortion was a loser. Except when you look down-ballot, especially at the tight races in the Senate and the House, abortion was the driver. Being in support of a national abortion ban is disqualifying for any Republican.”

Republicans can’t run from their anti-abortion records, especially as extremists like U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche say the quiet part out loud about Republicans’ agenda. Prior to his recent confirmation, Blanche pledged that the Justice Department is “working hand in hand with federal agencies and the White House so that the Dobbs decision becomes permanent in every single state” while promising that “victory will be soon, and…it will be permanent.” The confirmation vote for anti-abortion extremist Blanche could become an electoral pain point for Senators in tough races like Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan.

Timmaraju highlighted that the mission between now and November is ensuring that voters understand the stakes and mobilizing them to translate their support for reproductive freedom into tangible wins this November.
