ICYMI: New Research Finds a National Abortion Ban is a Top Dealbreaker for Battleground Voters
Less than 100 days before Election Day, new research from Reproductive Freedom for All and Impact Research shows that reproductive freedom remains a defining electoral issue in battleground races that will determine control of the U.S. House. Backing a national abortion ban is a top dealbreaker for nearly half of likely voters in battleground districts — on par with raising taxes on middle-class families or cutting Medicaid. Eight in ten said that it is important that lawmakers protect access to reproductive healthcare, which is why it’s essential that battleground voters are hearing about Republican efforts to restrict abortion and pass a national ban.
This polling is being put in action with a new $2 million investment in direct voter contact and organizing to mobilize voters. Reproductive Freedom for All’s historic $23.5 million midterm strategy—My Body. My Ballot.—will continue to be on the ground mobilizing voters, supporting reproductive freedom champions, and holding opponents accountable as November nears.

According to the poll, 43% of battleground state voters regardless of party say it is a “total dealbreaker” if a candidate supports a national abortion ban; nearly statistically even with 49% who say the same for candidates who support raising taxes on middle class families, and 48% for candidates that support cutting Medicaid.

The press release also specifically targeted Barrett and fellow Republican U.S. Rep. John James of Shelby Township, who is running for governor with the endorsement of President Donald Trump in a primary against businessman Perry Johnson, for their support of “devastating Medicaid cuts that threaten reproductive, preventive, and essential health care, while standing with a movement determined to push abortion care further out of reach,” Watson-Whittaker continued.
The press release cited an internal study based on a focus group and survey of voters who did not vote for Kamala Harris but who voted “Yes” on abortion referendums in Arizona, Michigan, or Nevada. It found that, among battleground voters, 43% considered a politician that supports a national abortion ban to be a dealbreaker — just a slightly lower percentage than a politician who supports raising taxes on middle class families or cutting Medicaid.
Univision Nevada: Abortion Shapes the Debate
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Nevada Campaigns Denise Lopez joined Univision Nevada to discuss the role reproductive freedom will play in Nevada’s elections, with Question 6 offering voters the opportunity to enshrine protections in the state constitution. Lopez highlighted Reproductive Freedom for All Nevada’s efforts on the ground to permanently protect abortion access and elect reproductive freedom champions up and down the ticket.
