Yesterday, Reproductive Freedom for All’s President and CEO, Mini Timmaraju, was on the ground in Michigan for campaign events with Dr. Abdul El-Sayed and former Vice President Kamala Harris, Christina Hines (MI-10), and William Lawrence (MI-07).
Mini Timmaraju moderated a roundtable discussion with Kamala Harris, Senate candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, and more than 20 community experts to discuss Black maternal health in Michigan and across the country. The event was hosted by Birth Detroit, a community-centered maternal and infant care organization. During the discussion, Harris emphasized what is at stake in this election and the importance of electing El-Sayed. Timmaraju commended El-Sayed for his commitment to reproductive freedom and his work to protect and advance maternal health.
Earlier in the day, Mini helped launch our six-figure voter contact program in MI-10 at our new office in Warren, as part of our My Body. My Ballot campaign. The operation aims to knock on 55,000 doors ahead of November in support of Democrat Christina Hines, who is running against Republican Mike Bouchard—an anti-abortion extremist. Amid relentless Republican attacks on abortion access at all levels, Timmaraju stressed how critical it is to elect leaders like Hines this November to flip the U.S. House and build a reproductive freedom majority.
To wrap up the day, Timmaraju joined congressional candidate William Lawrence for a My Body. My Ballot. Rights Night to mobilize supporters and reach more voters. Timmaraju highlighted the contrast between Lawrence—a reproductive freedom champion and longtime community organizer who has helped local families stay in their jobs and homes, and incumbent Republican Tom Barrett who is “100% pro-life” and voted for federal funding cuts that led to the closure of Planned Parenthood’s Lansing health center.
Backed by Reproductive Freedom for All’s historic My Body. My Ballot. campaign—which has already deployed six figures toward organizing in key Michigan districts—these three candidates are running in races with razor-thin margins that could decide control of Congress.

They talked about the care Black women deserve, the care they actually receive
and the work still ahead.

Shanay Watson-Whitaker of Reproductive Freedom for All talked about Planned Parenthood health centers closing across Michigan, from Marquette to Warren. And when a clinic closes, the people who need care don’t disappear. Michiganders voted to protect reproductive rights through Proposal 3 in 2022. But a right on paper doesn’t mean much if you can’t find a provider or get to a clinic.
