More Than 50 Volunteers Launch Reproductive Freedom Canvass in Arizona’s 5th Congressional District to mobilize voters in historically Republican East Valley district

Chandler, AZ —  More than 50 volunteers gathered in Chandler on Saturday to launch Reproductive Freedom for All Arizona’s canvassing effort in support of endorsed candidate Elizabeth Lee, running for Arizona’s 5th Congressional District.

Volunteers heard from Lee, Reproductive Freedom for All Arizona Campaigns Director and former state legislator Athena Salman.

Reproductive Freedom for All supporters and volunteers prepare to knock doors in the East Valley.

“It was incredible to join forces with Reproductive Freedom for All to launch more than 50 volunteers into the community,” said Lee. “Our volunteers know how critical this election is and that fighting for your community is the way to restore both unity and ethical governance.”

Reproductive Freedom for All is expanding its organizing activity in Arizona as part of its My Body. My Ballot. midterm program. The organization’s electoral work includes voter contact and organizing in congressional and legislative races.

Although Arizona’s 5th Congressional District has historically favored Republican candidates, Reproductive Freedom for All pointed to the district’s support for Proposition 139—the 2024 ballot measure establishing a fundamental right to abortion in the Arizona Constitution—as evidence that reproductive freedom has support across party lines. According to the General Election Official Canvass, Proposition 139 received 55.7% of the vote in the fifth congressional district.

“Elizabeth’s experience as a health care professional, journey to motherhood, and volunteer advocacy work inspired her to run,” said Salman. “Even though Prop. 139 transcended party lines by winning Arizona’s 5th congressional district , Republicans are working to overturn the will of the people. That’s why we need a fighter like Elizabeth in Congress, and we must flip the state legislature in order to protect our reproductive freedom from government interference.”

Lee faces Republican nominee Mark Lamb in the November general election. Lamb opposed Proposition 139, while Lee supports abortion rights and access to contraception, fertility treatment, and reproductive health care.
