Community Leader and Candidate in Missouri’s 1st Congressional District Earns Endorsement from Nation’s Leading Pro-Choice Advocacy Group
NARAL Pro-Choice America today announced its endorsement of community activist Cori Bush in her campaign to represent Missouri’s 1st Congressional District. Bush will face off against Republican candidate Anthony Rogers in November.
“NARAL is proud to endorse Cori Bush, who will be a fierce champion for reproductive freedom and equitable healthcare access in Congress,” said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Cori Bush is an inspiring community leader who will represent the values of voters in Missouri’s 1st Congressional District. NARAL and our more than 47,000 members across Missouri look forward to her joining the reproductive freedom majority in the House.”
“Our rights, our freedoms, our democracy, it’s all on the line in 2020. Now more than ever, Missouri needs Cori Bush—an activist, healthcare provider, and community leader—who has spent years on the front lines fighting to ensure all Missourians are able to make their own decisions about their bodies and futures,” said Mallory Schwarz, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri. “From addressing disparities in maternal mortality, education and housing, to advancing policies to improve access to reproductive healthcare, Missouri voters can count on Cori to push for progressive policies that ensure our communities thrive. We’re deeply proud to work side-by-side with Cori Bush as she takes our fight for true reproductive freedom from St. Louis to Capitol Hill.”
“I’m honored to receive NARAL Pro-Choice America’s endorsement,” said Cori Bush. “As a Black woman, single mother, essential worker, and survivor, NARAL’s work is deeply personal to me. I couldn’t be happier to continue working alongside NARAL Pro-Choice America and our incredible Missouri chapter as partners in the ongoing fight for reproductive justice.”
Cori Bush is a nurse, pastor, and community activist. Since the 2014 murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson, she has tirelessly fought for an end to police violence and led demands for justice across Missouri and the nation.
Bush is a strong advocate for reproductive justice and ensuring that low-income women, women of color, and trans people have access to comprehensive reproductive healthcare. She has pledged to vote in support of fully funding Planned Parenthood and Title X—which provides millions of low-income individuals with access to affordable family planning services—and to repeal the discriminatory Hyde amendment banning abortion coverage.
