Candidate for New York’s 16th Congressional District Earns Endorsement from Nation’s Leading Pro-Choice Advocacy Group

Washington, DC  Today NARAL Pro-Choice America announced its endorsement of Jamaal Bowman in his bid to represent New York’s 16th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Jamaal is a former middle school principal and education advocate who has spent the last 20 years fighting for families in New York.

“Jamaal Bowman will fight tirelessly for women and families and champion their values in Congress,” said Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “We need to protect and expand our pro-choice majority in the House to safeguard our fundamental freedoms and we need advocates like Jamaal to fight back against unyielding anti-choice attacks. NARAL is proud to endorse Jamaal and we look forward to working together to protect and expand reproductive freedom.”

“A Congress that is overwhelmingly male has no place governing the bodies of women,” said Jamaal Bowman. “I will never back down from the fight to protect the right to safe, legal abortion, and I will keep fighting until our laws recognize the intrinsic rights of every woman, of every color, sex, orientation, and status. I do not stand for women in demanding these rights — I stand with women. And I’m proud to stand with NARAL in this fight.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates and chapters are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all. For more than 50 years, NARAL has worked to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. Since 1969, NARAL has made history, grown to over 2.5 million members, and met the moments that have defined this fight with action, power, and freedom. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
