NARAL Pro-Choice California Endorses Future Reproductive Freedom Leader Tim Robertson for California State Senate
California — Today, NARAL Pro-Choice California announced its final endorsement of the 2022 midterm cycle: future reproductive freedom leader Tim Robertson for California’s 4th Senate District. Robertson has demonstrated a true commitment to preserving and protecting abortion rights in California and will continue to build momentum for reproductive freedom in the face of unprecedented attacks on our fundamental rights.
NARAL Pro-Choice California Director Shannon K. Olivieri Hovis released the following statement:
“California is a pillar for reproductive freedom across the United States, and Tim Robertson is a shining example of a steadfast defender of our rights. Californians deserve the ability to make our own decisions about our lives, families, and futures, and we will not allow anti-choice extremist lawmakers to steamroll over our most fundamental freedoms. By mobilizing our energized 370,000 California members, we will work hard to elect Tim Robertson and other champions up and down the ballot who will unwaveringly protect and preserve our reproductive freedom.”
Candidate for California’s 4th Senate District Tim Robertson said:
“The choice of if or when to become a parent is deeply personal and one of the biggest decisions we make. Politicians have no place in this decision. I stand proudly with NARAL to ensure all women have access to reproductive health care and the freedom to decide whether or not to have an abortion.”
Robertson joins 28 previously endorsed leaders for reproductive freedom running in open and challenger races and 46 previously endorsed champions running for reelection in earning the endorsement of NARAL Pro-Choice California PrivacyPAC, California’s statewide, nonpartisan, pro-choice political action committee leading the fight to elect champions for reproductive freedom. These endorsements come as NARAL is ramping up its work to elect candidates up and down the ballot during a critical moment in the fight for reproductive freedom. Last week, NARAL announced the launch of the final phase of its “Fight Back for Freedom” electoral program, powered by its 4 million-member strong grassroots movement. The program focuses on deep field investments in phone banking, door knocking, youth organizing, and canvassing, along with a robust communications campaign to support endorsed candidates and ballot initiatives in key states, including California. NARAL, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and EMILY’s List announced a partnership in May to collectively spend a historic $150 million on the 2022 midterms to elect reproductive freedom champions up and down the ballot across the country.
In June, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization—ending the constitutional right to abortion and opening the door for extremist state lawmakers to put total bans on abortion in place. This decision is already having a devastating impact throughout the country as 15 states are currently enforcing extreme or total bans on abortion.
In response to nationwide attacks on reproductive freedom, one year ago NARAL Pro-Choice California and its allies formed the California Future of Abortion Council (CA FAB Council) to create a blueprint for California’s next steps to safeguard and expand abortion access. Governor Newsom last week signed the historic legislative package supported by the California Future of Abortion Council.
