NARAL Pro-Choice California Is Now Reproductive Freedom for All California
San Francisco, CA — Today, NARAL Pro-Choice California is charting a new path forward as Reproductive Freedom for All California. As we embark upon our next chapter, our new name puts our mission, our values—and the values of the vast majority of Californians—front and center: We’re fighting for reproductive freedom for everybody. Honoring the legacy we’ve built together at NARAL, our organization and its more than 371,000 members in our state are seizing on this pivotal moment in our movement’s history.
Reproductive Freedom for All California Director Shannon Olivieri Hovis released the following statement:
“California is a Reproductive Freedom state—and our organization and our 371,000 members remain committed to the mission our new name underscores. With this evolution, we’re building on what we’ve accomplished, while honing in on what still needs to change. Together, we are working to ensure everyone—no matter who they are, where they’re from, or how much money they make—can access abortion and other forms of reproductive health care in California.”
This announcement coincides with NARAL Pro-Choice America becoming Reproductive Freedom for All. It comes after a vote from our organization’s membership and after years of NARAL research and discussions with people in communities across the country found that people think of abortion rights and access as a matter of freedom. Our research shows that reproductive freedom is a core value for people across the country—across religion, race, and age. With this change, our organization boldly forges ahead toward a future where reproductive freedom is a reality for everybody.
NARAL Pro-Choice America (now Reproductive Freedom for All) has had a presence in California since its founding in 1969. The national organization’s in-state chapter, Reproductive Freedom for All California, is dedicated to advancing reproductive freedom for all through legislative, political, and community organizing. Through organizing directly in California communities with door-to-door outreach, phone banking, online actions, and community events, we have recruited more than 371,000 Californians as members.
