Ten Georgia Candidates Earn Endorsement from Nation’s Leading Pro-Choice Advocacy Group
NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia today announced its endorsement of a slate of ten reproductive freedom champions ahead of the upcoming primary election in Georgia. The endorsements include: Nikki Merritt (SD-09), Kim Jackson (SD-41), Michelle Au (SD-48), state Senator Nikema Williams (SD-39), Marin Lim (HD-99), Rebecca Mitchell (HD-106), and state Representatives Teri Anulewicz (HD-42), Renitta Shannon (HD-84), Bee Nguyen (HD-89), and Dar’Shun Kendrick (HD-93).
“As anti-choice Republicans in Georgia demonstrate time and again their desire to criminalize abortion, punish women, and strip away reproductive freedom, Georgians deserve leaders who will be true champions for women and families,” said Laura Simmons, Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Georgia. “We must elect leaders who share our values and will fight for our ability to make personal decisions about pregnancy without interference from politicians. NARAL is proud to endorse these ten candidates whose leadership will be critical to fight back against an extreme anti-choice agenda.”
“As a physician, my life’s work is taking care of people. As a mother and as a public health expert, my mission is the same,” said Dr. Michelle Au. “The full spectrum of reproductive care is healthcare, full stop. And as your next state Senator, I will fight just as tenaciously for the rights, privacy, and autonomy of my constituents as I do for my own patients every single day.”
“Abortion is a choice that should be available to every woman, and I pledge to continue to fight any further restrictions to abortion in Georgia,” said state Rep. Teri Anulewicz. “I am proud of the work I did to fight HB 481 during the 2019 legislative session. That fight continues in the courts, as does the work here on the ground to ensure that women know that abortion is still safe and legal in Georgia.”
“I have been speaking out and fighting for women and families my entire professional career. As the Vice President of Public Policy for Planned Parenthood Southeast, I fought to protect every woman’s right to make her own personal health care decisions,” said state Senator Nikema Williams. “As your Senator, I’ve fought to provide everyone with the tools and opportunity to thrive, not merely survive — and I will never stop fighting to protect our reproductive rights.”
