NARAL Pro-Choice America Responds to Outcome of Election in Ohio’s 14th Congressional District

Ohio — Today, NARAL-endorsed candidate Hillary O’Connor Mueri lost her bid for election to the U.S. House of Representatives in Ohio’s 14th Congressional District.
NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement in response:
“While we had hoped to see a different outcome in this race, NARAL Pro-Choice America and our members will never stop fighting for the 77% of Americans who believe in the legal right to abortion. There’s no question that Representative David Joyce’s record on reproductive freedom is wildly out of touch with the views of the vast majority of Americans. We are proud to have stood with Hillary O’Connor Mueri as she gave Rep. Joyce a run for his money in this tight race.”
NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio Executive Director Kellie Copeland said:
“We’re grateful to Hillary O’Connor Mueri for running such a hard-fought campaign, unfortunately, Ohio’s congressional districts are stacked against candidates like O’Connor Mueri because of decades of gerrymandering. Ohio’s congressional delegation should look more like Ohio, and O’Connor Mueri and her team did everything they could to stand up for reproductive freedom in this campaign. Dedicated and determined local activists will continue the fight against renewed Republican efforts to block abortion in Ohio, and we will be there to stand with them and fight every step of the way.”
Anti-choice Republican Rep. David Joyce’s views on reproductive freedom are wildly out of step with the values of the 7 in 10 Americans and earned a 0% score from NARAL in the 2019 Congressional Record on Choice.
