Reproductive Freedom for All and Planned Parenthood Action Fund Demand Accountability and Rejection of Abortion Attacks During ACA Negotiations

Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All and Planned Parenthood Action Fund sent a letter to members of Congress making clear that they will score any vote that adds additional abortion restrictions to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits, and that lawmakers will be held accountable if Congress fails to pass a clean extension of ACA enhanced premium tax credits.

As reported this morning in Politico, this letter comes as anti-abortion members of Congress have shamelessly hijacked ACA negotiations. These politicians are using abortion as a smokescreen to distract from their refusal to make health care more affordable. Because of this charade, coverage costs are skyrocketing, and the health care crisis is only getting worse.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“The GOP is putting their extremist views on abortion above affordability for all Americans. We cannot allow Republicans to continue to use Americans as bargaining chips and abortion as a scapegoat. It’s time for Republicans to end the health care crisis they’ve created and pass a clean extension of ACA tax credits.”

Planned Parenthood Action Fund President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson released the following statement:

“The Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans have relentlessly worked towards their goal to make it harder for everyone, everywhere, to get health care — including an abortion when they need one. Now they’re continuing these attacks by pitting access to affordable health care against access to abortion coverage, all to justify tax handouts to billionaires. Congress has rejected these efforts before and they must again. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is not new to these fights, and we stand in lockstep with the majority of the country who agree that people should have the right to make their own decisions about their bodies, lives, and futures. Any effort from Congress that undermines this freedom and adds new abortion coverage bans nationwide must be opposed in the strongest of terms.”
