Reproductive Freedom for All California Announces 2026 Sponsored Bill Package

Today, Reproductive Freedom for All California announced its 2026 sponsored bill package, supporting legislation that aims to expand access to reproductive health care in the state and strengthen protections for abortion providers and other reproductive health care providers.

California has robust legal protections for abortion care in place, but amid the Trump administration’s attacks on abortion, Medicaid, and reproductive care nationwide, and as states with extreme abortion bans try to attack California-based care providers, legislation that will bolster protections for anyone who provides or seeks reproductive health care is essential.

Reproductive Freedom for All Senior Director of California Campaigns Kristin Slevin released the following statement:

“California has always been a leader in protecting abortion access, and must stay on offense as Donald Trump and his GOP allies in Congress try to take away access to care by stripping away funding for Medicaid and Planned Parenthood. We’re proud to mobilize our more than 400,000 members to ensure bills that meet this unprecedented moment get signed into law, and we thank our champions in Sacramento who have always fought to ensure Californians can access the full spectrum of reproductive health care.”

Reproductive Freedom for All California is co-sponsoring the following bills to ensure people in California can access the abortion care they need—including medication abortion:

  • AB 54 (Krell) will create additional protections for medication abortion in California, including protections for manufacturers, distributors, authorized health care providers and individuals from civil, criminal or professional liability.
  • AB 1973 (Aguiar-Curry) modernizes California law by expanding advanced practice clinician (APC) scope of practice laws to allow nurse practitioners, certified nurse-midwives, and physician assistants to provide abortion care to the full extent of their education, training, and clinical competency.
  • AB 2540 (Stefani) expands access to medication abortion on community college campuses with existing health centers.
