Reproductive Freedom for All Calls Out Unconstitutional Attack from Missouri Supreme Court, Halting Abortions and Overturning the Will of the People
Washington, DC — Yesterday, the Missouri Supreme Court brought back the state’s near-total abortion ban, a pointed political attack that completely disregards the will of voters who overwhelmingly passed a reproductive freedom ballot amendment in November. The state’s only abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, has been forced to halt all abortions, and reproductive care is, once again, out of reach for many Missourians.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“This latest attack by the Missouri Supreme Court is unconstitutional, unconscionable, and downright dirty politics. It is devastating for people across the country to know that even if they organize, vote, and pass measures to protect their reproductive care, extreme GOP actors will still try to take away our constitutional rights. Make no mistake, this fight is not over, and we will keep working to protect reproductive care in Missouri.”
This news comes shortly after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the GOP’s budget reconciliation bill with provisions to defund Planned Parenthood, make $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid, and ultimately leave 13.7 million people without health care coverage by 2034, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
