Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates as Amy Acton Wins Bid for Governor in Ohio
Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidate Dr. Amy Acton won her bid for Ohio governor, defeating Trump loyalist and anti-abortion extremist Vivek Ramaswamy.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“As a physician, Dr. Amy Acton understands better than anyone that decisions about abortion care belong between patients and their doctors, and Ohioans can trust her to put reproductive freedom first as governor. Vivek Ramaswamy launched nasty attack ads and promised to be Trump’s lackey, and voters made clear tonight that his extreme agenda has no place in Ohio.”
Reproductive Freedom for All supported Acton’s campaign through My Body. My Ballot., the organization’s historic $23.5 million midterm program to mobilize voters, hold anti-abortion politicians accountable, and elect reproductive freedom champions.
A physician and former director of the Ohio Department of Health, Acton has pledged to defend Issue 1, the constitutional amendment Ohio voters approved in 2023 protecting decisions about abortion, contraception, fertility treatment, and miscarriage care.
Ramaswamy is “unapologetically pro-life” and has supported a total abortion ban without exceptions. He also has close ties to numerous anti-abortion groups, including the Right to Life Action Coalition of Ohio—a group that opposes all forms of contraception and IVF and favors a total abortion ban. In the final stretch, Ramaswamy launched a disgusting attack ad weaponizing Acton’s childhood trauma, which voters soundly rejected alongside his anti-abortion extremism.
