Atlanta, GA — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidate state Rep. Tanya Miller defeated anti-abortion Republican Brian Strickland to become Georgia’s next attorney general and the first Black woman to hold the office.
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of State Campaigns Pavitra Abraham released the following statement:
“Georgians chose a champion for reproductive freedom to lead the state’s highest legal office. Tanya Miller has spent her career in courtrooms holding criminals accountable, and now she will hold politicians accountable for trying to control Georgians’ access to abortion care.”
Reproductive Freedom for All backed Miller’s campaign through My Body. My Ballot., a $23.5 million campaign and the organization’s largest-ever midterm electoral program. The campaign mobilizes the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion and holds anti-abortion politicians accountable at the ballot box. To help secure this critical victory, Reproductive Freedom for All mobilized its nearly 100,000 members in the state.
Miller is a former prosecutor, civil rights attorney, and chair of the Georgia House Democratic Caucus. She is a staunch opponent of Georgia’s extreme six-week abortion ban and has promised to defend access to legal reproductive care.
Strickland, a member of the Georgia state senate, has consistently voted for anti-abortion legislation, including Georgia’s six-week abortion ban.
