Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed Gov. Wes Moore defeated anti-abortion Republican Dan Cox and won a second term as governor of Maryland.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Wes Moore understands that declaring a right is not enough: You have to fund care, protect providers, and make sure patients can access it. Maryland voters rewarded that leadership and kept a safe haven open in the backyard of Republicans pushing a national abortion ban.”
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of State Campaigns Pavitra Abraham released the following statement:
“Marylanders made clear they want a state that continues to lead on reproductive freedom. Reproductive Freedom for All’s Maryland members helped mobilize voters to reelect a governor who has turned constitutional protections into real-world access to care—and reject a candidate who has pushed to restrict abortion.”
Reproductive Freedom for All backed Moore’s campaign through My Body. My Ballot., a $23.5 million campaign and the organization’s largest-ever midterm electoral program. The campaign mobilizes the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion and holds anti-abortion politicians accountable at the ballot box.
Moore campaigned for Question 1 in 2024, which Maryland voters approved to enshrine the right to reproductive freedom in the state constitution. He has signed laws protecting patients and providers from out-of-state prosecution, invested $15.6 million to expand abortion care access across the state, and this year enacted legislation requiring Maryland hospitals to provide emergency pregnancy care, including abortion.
Dan Cox, whom Moore defeated by more than 30 points in 2022, introduced bills to restrict abortion access as a state delegate and has called himself “100% pro-life.”
