Harrisburg, PA — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidate Governor Josh Shapiro defeated anti-abortion Republican state Treasurer Stacy Garrity to win a second term as governor of Pennsylvania.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Governor Shapiro understands that reproductive freedom cannot be a right only for people who can afford it. Pennsylvanians know he is committed to protecting and expanding access across the state, and that they can trust him to continue putting their values first.”
Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed Shapiro for reelection through My Body. My Ballot., the organization’s historic $23.5 million midterm program to mobilize voters, hold anti-abortion politicians accountable, and elect reproductive freedom champions. To help secure this critical victory, Reproductive Freedom for All mobilized its nearly 200,000 members in the state.
During his first term, Shapiro used his office to keep abortion legal and expand access to care. His administration joined legal action defending access to mifepristone by mail and declined to defend Pennsylvania’s longstanding ban on Medicaid coverage of abortion, helping clear the way for the state Supreme Court to strike down the restriction. His administration also announced that all insurers would cover Opill, the first over-the-counter daily birth control pill, without cost sharing for the 2026 plan year.
