Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidate Rep. Kathy Castor defeated Republican state representative Mike Beltran to win reelection in Florida’s 14th Congressional District.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Kathy Castor’s victory sends a clear message: Floridians want their freedom back. She’ll keep fighting to lower healthcare costs and protect our right to make our own decisions about our bodies, our families, and our futures.”
Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed Castor and backed her campaign through My Body. My Ballot., a $23.5 million campaign and the organization’s largest-ever midterm electoral program. To help secure this critical victory, Reproductive Freedom for All launched a coordinated $160,000, three–piece mail program in FL-14, in partnership with the Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy (CFFE).
Castor has been a consistent voice in Congress, fighting to lower health care costs, expand access to reproductive care, and make sure seniors have access to quality, affordable care in their own homes.
Beltran, on the other hand, wrote a bill to ban abortion even in cases of rape or incest and proposed a law that could ban common forms of birth control. He was also the only Florida legislator, Democrat or Republican, to vote against a bipartisan law that lowered health care costs and expanded access to care for new moms.
