Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidate Sherrod Brown defeated anti-abortion extremist Jon Husted in the race for Ohio’s U.S. Senate seat. Brown’s victory flips the seat, ending Republican control of Ohio’s delegation and sending him back to Congress.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Sherrod Brown has spent his career putting working people and their fundamental freedoms ahead of politics, and Ohioans are sending him back to the Senate to keep doing exactly that. Brown’s return to the Senate sends an unmistakably clear warning to anti-abortion legislators—we will not back down, our movement is here to stay, and their days of dodging accountability are over.”
Brown was part of Reproductive Freedom for All’s first slate of frontline U.S. Senate endorsements in the 2026 midterm cycle. During his tenure as Senator, Brown earned a 100% score from Reproductive Freedom for All and introduced multiple pieces of legislation to protect reproductive rights. He made reproductive freedom, affordable healthcare, unionized jobs, and economic security core pillars of his campaign—driving home the principle that healthcare decisions should be made by patients and their providers, not politicians.
Jon Husted built his career attacking reproductive freedom—from defending Ohio’s strictest abortion bans to supporting federal restrictions on medication abortion and “fetal personhood” legislation. When Ohioans voted to protect abortion rights in 2023, Husted actively opposed them. Backed by millions from national anti-choice PACs, he remains completely out of step with the voters he represents.
