Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates as Voters Elect Reproductive Freedom Trifecta in Arizona

Phoenix, AZ — Today, Arizona voters flipped the state Senate and House, electing a reproductive freedom majority to the legislature for the first time since 1966 and ending decades of Republican control. Coupled with the governor’s seat, this victory secures Arizona’s first Democratic trifecta in 60 years.

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Arizona Campaigns and former Arizona State Representative Athena Salman released the following statement:

“Nearly six decades of ruthless attacks on our reproductive freedom by the state government ends tonight. After Arizonans enshrined the right to abortion into our constitution, the Republican-controlled legislature spent precious time, resources, and taxpayer money working to upend the will of the voters. With this trifecta, voters have made it crystal clear: They want leaders who will respect our right to make our own decisions about our bodies, families, and futures.”

This monumental victory follows two years of sustained attacks by the Republican-led legislature on the Arizona Abortion Access Act, the 2024 voter-approved amendment protecting abortion rights in the state constitution.

Reproductive Freedom for All backed candidates in key Arizona Senate and House races through My Body. My Ballot., a $23.5 million campaign and the organization’s largest-ever midterm electoral program. The campaign mobilizes the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion and holds anti-abortion politicians accountable at the ballot box. To help secure this critical victory, Reproductive Freedom for All mobilized its more than 100,000 members in the state, invested $125,000 to grow its membership across Arizona, and funded a $421,000 paid canvassing program to reach more voters ahead of Election Day.

Arizona voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 139 in 2024, establishing a fundamental right to abortion in the state constitution—yet anti-abortion lawmakers continued pushing legislation that threatened contraception and IVF and attempted to undermine the protections voters secured. The new reproductive freedom majority can block those attacks, advance legislation to repeal remaining abortion restrictions, protect access to contraception, and defend Arizona’s Medicaid program.
