Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates Court Decision Restoring Abortion Access in Missouri
Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All celebrated a Missouri court ruling striking down nearly all of the state’s medically unnecessary abortion restrictions and restoring access to medication abortion for the first time since 2018.
Missouri became the first state to ban nearly all abortion care after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. In 2024, Missouri became the first state to overturn an abortion ban at the ballot box when voters approved a constitutional amendment protecting reproductive freedom.
While this ruling removes many of the barriers that continued to block Missourians from accessing care, abortion access has not yet been fully restored. Some restrictions remain in place, the state attorney general has announced plans to appeal, and anti-abortion lawmakers have placed a new proposal on the November ballot that would once again ban abortion in Missouri with limited exceptions.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“This ruling is a powerful victory for Missourians who fought to take back control of their bodies, lives, and futures. It brings Missouri closer to delivering on the reproductive freedom access voters demanded at the ballot box. It’s been eight long years since Missourians have been able to access medication abortion, and countless women have had to travel out of state to access fundamental healthcare as a result. But this victory is not the end of the fight. Barriers to care remain, and anti-abortion politicians are once again trying to override the will of Missouri voters and take this freedom away. This November, Missourians will once again decide that personal decisions about pregnancy and abortion belong to them — not politicians.”
