Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates Historic Commonwealth Trifecta Victory in Virginia
Washington, DC — Today, Virginia voters elected a reproductive freedom trifecta in Virginia, securing majorities in the House of Delegates and electing Abigail Spanberger as governor, Ghazala Hashmi as lieutenant governor, and Jay Jones as attorney general. This marks the first time since 2019 that Democrats have full control of the Virginia government. Since the fall of Roe v. Wade, abortion access has been decimated in Southern states, leaving Virginia as the only safe haven for people seeking abortion care.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“This is a resounding victory for Virginians and for reproductive freedom in the South. These champions made it clear to voters that their commitment to defending abortion access would be unwavering—and it paid off. This sweep proves what we have seen again and again: when candidates run on expanding and protecting abortion access, they win. We want to particularly thank our 112,000 members in Virginia, who contacted thousands of voters through calls, texts, and canvassing. We’re so proud of the work they did across the commonwealth to make this historic win possible.”
Virginia’s 2025 election is a bellwether for the future of reproductive freedom in states across the country heading into 2026. Reproductive Freedom for All spent $1 million on the “Your Vote, Your Freedom” campaign in Virginia, including:
● Running ads in the gubernatorial race highlighting Winsome Earle-Sears’ extreme position on abortion
● Launching a six-figure paid canvass operation to engage and mobilize key voters, particularly in the House of Delegates 86th district/Hampton Roads area
● Knocking on 36,500 doors, making 12,000 calls, and sending thousands of texts, as well as partnering with the Virginia Coordinated Campaign on multiple Northern Virginia canvasses
● Organizing multiple events, educating our 112,000 members in Virginia about what’s at stake, including a campus program at our Virginia Tech chapter to turn out the vote
