Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates Missourians’ Rejection of Amendment 3 to Protect Reproductive Freedom

Washington, DC — Today, Missouri voters rejected Amendment 3, a Republican-backed ballot measure that would have overturned the abortion protections voters enshrined in their state constitution in 2024 and reinstated a near-total ban. This marks the third time in two years Missourians have rejected Republican efforts to make it harder to protect reproductive freedom at the ballot box.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“Missouri Republicans tried to overturn the will of voters, but Missourians fought back and chose reproductive freedom for the third time in two years. Missouri voters have made their voices clear and rejected anti-democratic attempts to take away their power.”

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of State Campaigns Pavitra Abraham released the following statement:

“Missourians once again rejected politicians’ attempts to undo the abortion protections they enshrined in 2024. Our investment helped support the effort to defend that hard-won victory and ensure Missourians’ voices were heard.”

Reproductive Freedom for All invested six figures in this critical effort to defeat the initiative and protect Missourians’ reproductive freedom as part of the organization’s historic My Body. My Ballot. program—a $23.5 million campaign to mobilize voters, hold anti-abortion politicians accountable, and elect reproductive freedom champions in key races across the country.

Amendment 3 would have repealed Missouri’s constitutional right to reproductive freedom, reinstated abortion restrictions, and given politicians broader authority to restrict access to care across the state. Republican lawmakers also inserted a constitutional ban on gender-affirming care for transgender minors into the measure, despite existing state restrictions on that care.

In 2025, the measure’s language was challenged in court for obscuring its consequences. A Missouri judge ruled that the original ballot summary was “problematic” because it failed to clearly tell voters that Amendment 3 would repeal the reproductive health care rights they approved in 2024, and ordered state officials to rewrite it.

In August, Missouri voters also overwhelmingly rejected Amendment 4, a Republican-led measure that would have required ballot initiatives to win majority support in every congressional district, making it significantly harder to amend the state constitution.
