Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns Anti-Abortion Disinformation Ahead of Mollie Hemingway’s “Alito” Book Release
Washington, DC — A new book by Fox News contributor Mollie Hemingway, “Alito,” falsely claims that liberal Supreme Court justices deliberately delayed their Dobbs dissent, and baselessly implies that supporters of reproductive freedom posed an assassination threat to the conservative justices. The book offers no evidence for either claim and paves over the true legacy of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision: the rising death toll and the taking away of the constitutionally protected right to abortion for millions of Americans.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“This book is yet another example of anti-abortion extremists trying to rewrite history and avoid accountability. We still do not know who is responsible for the Dobbs leak, and this type of speculation is dangerous and reckless. What we do know are the catastrophic consequences of this decision—including the deaths of pregnant people in states with abortion bans. The Dobbs decision will remain a lasting stain on the Court’s legacy—and on Justice Alito’s as both its author and his decades-long campaign to overturn Roe. No amount of spin can change the dangerous reality the American people live with today.”
In May 2022, the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization leaked when a draft majority opinion by Justice Samuel Alito was published before the final decision. The decision ultimately overturned nearly 50 years of constitutional protection for abortion access—the first time the Supreme Court has ever taken away a fundamental right from the American people. An investigation was launched, but the source of the leak was never identified.
