Reproductive Freedom for All Condemns House Passage of GOP Budget Bill
Washington, DC — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the GOP’s budget reconciliation bill with provisions to defund Planned Parenthood, make $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid, and ultimately leave 13.7 million people without health care coverage by 2034, according to the Congressional Budget Office. The provision to defund Planned Parenthood is expected to increase the deficit by $300 million and take high-quality health care away from Planned Parenthood’s 2 million annual patients.
The passage of this extreme budget by the GOP-led House comes just weeks after Trump made numerous empty promises that he would not touch Medicaid.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:
“This devastating bill will take away health care from millions of people and could shut down Planned Parenthood health centers, a safe haven for many seeking access to reproductive care. Medicaid and Planned Parenthood are each more popular than any politician, and Americans will not accept this attack on their health care. We now have confirmation that Trump’s empty promises to ‘Save Medicaid’ were outright lies. The truth is that the GOP is taking away health care from families and they will face the consequences at the ballot box.”
