Reproductive Freedom For All Condemns Trump’s Department of Justice Curtailing Prosecutions for Anti-Abortion Extremists
Washington, DC — Today, President Donald Trump’s Justice Department issued an order to ignore violations of federal law protecting abortion providers and patients from violence and harassment, the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. The move comes the day after Trump issued a pardon for anti-abortion extremists who have harassed and tried to prevent patients from entering clinics and were subsequently convicted for violating the FACE Act. Trump’s pick for attorney general, anti-abortion extremist Pam Bondi, has yet to be confirmed. If she is, she will likely continue to weaken protections for abortion providers and patients, allowing abortion extremists to violently harass, intimidate, and block people from accessing the care they need.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“It’s only been five days and Trump is already abusing his power, endangering patients and providers so he can push access out of reach. This reckless action will open the floodgates to violence and harassment against people simply seeking the care they need. We must hold the Trump administration accountable for emboldening dangerous extremists and attacking our reproductive freedoms.”
