Reproductive Freedom for All Endorses Eli Savit for Michigan Attorney General
Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All announced its endorsement of Eli Savit for Michigan attorney general. As Washtenaw County prosecutor, Savit has repeatedly used the power of his office to protect abortion access and defend Michiganders’ freedom to make personal decisions about their bodies, lives, and futures. As attorney general, he will continue working to safeguard and expand reproductive freedom across the state.
After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Savit refused to prosecute abortion providers under Michigan’s 1846 abortion ban and urged the Michigan Supreme Court to allow the Reproductive Freedom for All amendment to appear on the 2022 ballot. He also supported legal efforts to permanently block the 1846 ban and has consistently filed legal briefs to defend reproductive freedom in Michigan.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Michiganders deserve an attorney general who will safeguard the incredible progress they’ve made to protect and defend abortion access in Michigan, and Eli Savit is the person for the job. Eli has spent his legal career putting the fundamental rights of Michiganders first, and will continue that vital work as the state’s next attorney general. We’re proud to support him in this race.”
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Michigan Campaigns Shanay Watson-Whittaker released the following statement:
“When abortion access was under direct threat in Michigan, Eli Savit did not hesitate. He refused to enforce an extreme, century-old abortion ban and led critical legal efforts to defend abortion access in Michigan. That is exactly the kind of fearless leadership families across the state deserve from an attorney general. Eli will be relentless in his efforts to protect and expand reproductive freedom, and Reproductive Freedom for All Michigan is ready to mobilize our 146,000 members to elect him this November.”
Eli Savit released the following statement:
“Reproductive freedom is not negotiable. As a prosecutor, I’ve been proud to stand alongside patients, providers, and advocates in the fight for reproductive rights—including litigating to protect abortion access in Michigan.
As attorney general, I’ll use every tool available to defend reproductive freedom. Politicians should never be able to insert themselves into the deeply personal health care decisions of others. I’m proud to have the endorsement of Reproductive Freedom for All and look forward to continuing this work together.”
