Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All launched a new digital ad in Pennsylvania, “Victory“, highlighting the anti-abortion extremism of Heidi Overton, Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the Food and Drug Administration. Overton has pushed disinformation about the safety of medication abortion and argued for remaking federal health agencies around Republicans’ anti-abortion agenda. If confirmed, she would run an agency that could entirely curb access to mifepristone—in effect pushing a backdoor abortion ban that is deeply unpopular with voters.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“With the election just two months away, Republicans are stacking the administration with extremists and saying the quiet part out loud that banning abortion access is a top priority. This November, Ryan Mackenzie will have to answer to Pennsylvania voters for the anti-abortion extremism coming from the highest levels of the Trump administration.”
The ad will run on Meta and YouTube in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, home to one of the most competitive House races in the country this November—where Reproductive Freedom for All has endorsed Bob Brooks in his challenge to Rep. Ryan Mackenzie. It launches days before the Fifth Circuit hears oral arguments on September 9 in Louisiana v. FDA, a case that threatens to reinstate a medically unnecessary in-person dispensing requirement for mifepristone nationwide, including in states where abortion is protected.
