Reproductive Freedom for All Nevada Underscores Importance of Passing Question 6 on 26th Anniversary of Mifepristone Approval
Carson City, NV — Today marks the 26th anniversary of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of mifepristone, one of two medications used for medication abortion care.
Mifepristone is overwhelmingly safe and effective, and is used in more than half of all abortion care nationwide. Despite over 200 peer-reviewed studies proving the safety and efficacy of mifepristone, the Trump administration and its allies have launched a coordinated attack against the medication to fulfill their ultimate goal of banning abortion nationwide—including in Nevada, where abortion is protected.
With less than 40 days until critical midterm elections that will determine the future of abortion access nationwide, Nevadans have the power to pass Question 6 for a second time and enshrine abortion rights into the Nevada constitution to build upon and improve existing protections.
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Nevada Campaigns Denise Lopez released the following statement:
“Nevadans should not have to wonder whether their freedom will disappear with the next election. Anti-abortion politicians are once again ignoring decades of evidence to push abortion out of reach, but by voting YES on question 6 this November, we can put the strongest possible state protections for abortion into our constitution.”
In 2024, Nevada voters took the first of two steps to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution when they approved Question 6 with 64% of the vote, making clear that they want the government to stay out of decisions about abortion.
