Reproductive Freedom for All Responds as Republican Lawmakers Force Federal Government Into Shutdown
Washington, DC — This evening, the federal government is heading toward a shutdown until a spending bill is approved by Congress and signed into law.
The shutdown comes after multiple calls from Democratic leaders to negotiate a bipartisan spending bill were ignored by Republicans. Republican lawmakers also rejected Democrats’ proposed spending bill, which aimed to undo the deadly health care crisis unleashed by the GOP’s July budget bill by repealing the Medicaid cuts, funding Planned Parenthood, and permanently extending ACA enhanced tax credits.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“This is not governing—it’s sabotage. Donald Trump and his allies in Congress are deliberately manufacturing chaos in order to push their deeply unpopular agenda of dismantling health care. We’re grateful to Congressional Democrats—led by Leaders Schumer and Jeffries, who are actually listening to their constituents—for holding the line to protect our health care and reproductive freedom.”
