Reproductive Freedom for All Responds to Vice Presidential Debate
Washington, DC – Tonight, during the vice presidential debate with Governor Tim Walz and Senator JD Vance, Walz once again demonstrated his deep commitment to advancing reproductive freedom. As governor, Walz has championed our fundamental rights and freedoms, expanding access to abortion care in his home state of Minnesota, and addressing his family’s own experience with assisted fertility treatments like IVF. Meanwhile, JD Vance spewed lie after lie about his and Donald Trump’s anti-abortion record.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement in response:
“Tonight, Gov. Walz shined a light on the real-life stories of people who have experienced the catastrophic and sometimes deadly consequences of Donald Trump’s abortion bans. Faced with the reality of MAGA Republicans’ consequences, JD Vance repeatedly lied to millions of Americans about his record and support for a national abortion ban. Gov. Walz was the clear winner of this debate. No matter how Vance tries to shamelessly run from his record and the fact that Donald Trump is responsible for ending Roe v. Wade, voters know the truth. Trump did this, and Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will fix it.”
J.D. Vance has a lengthy anti-abortion record, including:
- Vance has voiced support for a national abortion ban.
- During his time in Congress, Vance has scored a consistent 0% on Reproductive Freedom for All’s congressional record.
- When the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Vance tweeted out a statement using “personhood” language to call for federal policy on abortion. Applying this language to the law could outlaw all abortion, as well as some forms of contraception and assisted fertility treatments such as IVF.
- Earlier this year, Vance voted with Senate Republicans to block a bill supporting protecting and restoring abortion rights and access following the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
- Vance voted against efforts to protect the right to IVF.
- Vance claims otherwise, but the truth is that he and Trump are both deeply connected to Project 2025. He even wrote the foreword for Project 2025 architect Kevin Roberts’ new book.
