Reproductive Freedom for All Slams Andy Biggs’ Anti-Abortion Extremist Pick for Lieutenant Governor

Phoenix, AZ — Today, Republican gubernatorial nominee Andy Biggs named anti-abortion extremist and former state Senator Sine Kerr as his running mate for lieutenant governor. Her nomination cements anti-abortion extremism at the top of the Republican ticket in Arizona and raises the stakes for November’s elections.

Kerr has spent her state Senate career working to criminalize abortion in Arizona, with alarming actions including: 

Kerr’s addition to the top of the ticket with Andy Biggs should alarm everyone invested in reproductive freedom—Biggs himself is a major anti-abortion opponent:

  • Biggs is an original cosponsor of legislation that would ban abortion with no exceptions by extending constitutional “personhood” to a fertilized egg. He supported this legislation less than three months after Arizona voters passed Prop 139, and he has backed the same bill four times — showing complete disregard for the will of Arizona voters.
  • He also voted for Trump’s budget bill, which cut $880 billion from Medicaid and put eight Arizona hospitals at risk of closing or cutting services — hampering access to key reproductive care services.
  • He also opposed extending the ACA healthcare tax credits, stripping access to healthcare for more than 121,000 Arizonans.

Andy Biggs and Sine Kerr would cement their anti-abortion extremism and install extremists across the state government if they win in November. If given the chance, they would also move to enact a slew of new abortion bans, completely disregarding the protections for abortion enshrined in the state’s constitution by voters. Voters will have a clear choice in November—Gov. Katie Hobbs’ campaign is the strongest path to protect reproductive freedom for Arizonans.

“Andy Biggs and Sine Kerr are the anti-abortion duo that should alarm Arizonans who want their freedoms protected. I served in the Arizona legislature with Sine Kerr, and I watched her try to put doctors in prison for providing abortion care. Now, Andy Biggs wants to make her next in line to run this state. 

Arizonans have beaten this extreme agenda every time politicians like Biggs and Kerr have tried to force it on them, and this November we’ll mobilize with even more force. Prop 139 won every congressional and legislative district in Arizona, and our nearly 100,000 members are at doors across the state right now to make sure voters know that reproductive freedom is on the ballot in Arizona again in 2026.”
