MICHIGAN STATE LAW AND REPRODUCTIVE FREEDOM

Across Michigan, people have made their voices heard—loudly and clearly—in support of reproductive freedom. In 2022, Michigan voters enshrined abortion rights in the state constitution.

In 2024, they elected reproductive freedom champions, including Justice Kimberly Ann Thomas and Justice Kyra Harris Bolden to the Michigan Supreme Court and Elissa Slotkin to the U.S. Senate.

But the fight isn’t over. As anti-abortion extremists and lawmakers continue to target access to abortion, birth control, and other essential reproductive health care, we’re keeping up the pressure. We no longer have a reproductive freedom majority with the state legislature split so our voices—and our advocacy—matter more than ever.

Here’s what we’re fighting for in Michigan:

Comprehensive, medically accurate sex education

Protection for access to fertility care like IVF

Strong safeguards for reproductive health care access statewide

Two of our top legislative priorities in 2025 included:

âś… Championing SB 154, which would protect clinics, health care facilities, and their patients from harassment by anti-abortion extremists.
đź’ś Support funding for Planned Parenthood of Michigan to help sustain essential health services after harmful federal cuts to Title X and Medicaid under the Trump administration.
