Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates as Attorney General Aaron Ford Wins Nevada Governor Race

Carson City, NV —  Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidate Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford defeated anti-abortion extremist Governor Joe Lombardo to become Nevada’s first Black governor. This win secures a reproductive freedom trifecta for the state.

Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:

“Nevadans secured a historic victory tonight by electing Aaron Ford—a true champion of the people and proven defender of abortion access—and sending anti-abortion politician Joe Lombardo packing. Ford is a proven friend of the movement who knows that protecting reproductive freedom takes more than promises—it takes elected officials willing to use every tool of the office.”

Reproductive Freedom for All Director of Nevada Campaigns Denise Lopez released the following statement:

“Nevadans finally have a fighter for reproductive freedom in the governor’s office. Voters clearly rejected Joe Lombardo’s dangerous efforts to restrict reproductive freedom, and now Aaron Ford will leverage his office to protect patients and providers.”

Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed Ford’s campaign through My Body. My Ballot., a $23.5 million campaign and the organization’s largest-ever midterm electoral program. The campaign mobilizes the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion. To help secure this critical victory, Reproductive Freedom for All mobilized its over 57,000 members in the state.

Throughout his tenure as attorney general, Ford has defended reproductive freedom in Nevada and across the country. He opposed GOP-led abortion restrictions and worked to preserve access to medication abortion. His policy platform in this race emphasizes expanding Medicaid reimbursement for abortion procedures and reducing cost barriers for over-the-counter contraceptives.

During his time as Governor, Joe Lombardo consistently stood against Nevada’s reproductive freedom. His anti-abortion record includes celebrating the fall of Roe v. Wade, supporting an abortion ban in Nevada, and vetoing protections for contraception access.

Ford’s victory comes as Nevadans approved Question 6 for the second time, enshrining the right to abortion in the state constitution. As governor, Ford will be responsible for ensuring those protections are fully implemented and enforced.

Reproductive Freedom for All Nevada led the 2026 effort through Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, the coalition supporting Question 6. In September, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom launched a $1 million digital ad campaign explaining the stakes of the amendment.
