Reproductive Freedom for All Celebrates as Chris Mann Defeats Kris Kobach in Kansas Attorney General Race
Washington, DC — Today, Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidate Chris Mann defeated anti-abortion extremist and incumbent Attorney General Kris Kobach, becoming the first Democrat Kansans have elected attorney general in two decades.
Reproductive Freedom for All Director of State Campaigns Pavitra Abraham released the following statement:
“Chris Mann spent his career keeping Kansans safe as a police officer and prosecutor, and now he will lead an attorney general’s office that respects the rights Kansans voted to protect. Kris Kobach turned that office into a weapon against abortion rights and access, but Kansas voters rejected his agenda once again.”
Reproductive Freedom for All endorsed Mann in June as part of the organization’s historic My Body. My Ballot. midterm program, a $23.5 million campaign to mobilize voters, hold anti-abortion politicians accountable, and elect reproductive freedom champions in key races across the country.
Kris Kobach used the attorney general’s office to advance his anti-abortion agenda. He joined Missouri and Idaho in a federal lawsuit seeking to restrict access to mifepristone nationwide, defended abortion restrictions that Kansas courts struck down, and pushed to replace the Kansas Supreme Court’s merit selection system with elections after voters protected abortion rights in 2022. Kansans rejected that plan at the ballot box in August.
As attorney general, Mann will lead the office with the power to decide whether Kansas defends unconstitutional abortion restrictions in court and whether the state joins national efforts to restrict medication abortion. Mann has committed to respecting the will of Kansas voters and defending their constitutional rights.
