Washington, DC — Today, voters flipped the U.S. House of Representatives and elected a majority ready to protect reproductive freedom. Abortion was a defining contrast in the races that decided the chamber, and Reproductive Freedom for All-endorsed candidates flipped key Republican-held seats.
Reproductive Freedom for All President and CEO Mini Timmaraju released the following statement:
“Tonight, voters broke Republicans’ grip on Washington and put an end to their unchecked anti-abortion extremism. Donald Trump has spent the past two years rolling back our reproductive freedom, but champions in the House under Hakeem Jeffries’ steadfast leadership now have the majority to hold him accountable. Abortion was on the ballot in these races, and voters delivered a powerful mandate to protect our freedom.”
Reproductive Freedom for All launched its historic $23.5 million My Body. My Ballot. program early, putting organizers on the ground in key states on the path to a House majority, including Michigan, Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and California. The organization mobilized its 4.5 million members, endorsed 138 candidates for the U.S. House, knocked hundreds of thousands of doors, and ran a seven-figure ad program across battleground districts exposing Republicans’ anti-abortion records. That work closed the believability gap identified in the organization’s research and showed voters the threats to abortion access were real.
Abortion is more popular than either political party, and 2026 shows that Republicans’ anti-abortion agenda keeps putting more districts on the map for Democrats heading into 2028.Starting in January, the new majority will have the power to block anti-abortion policies in federal spending bills, investigate the agencies attacking medication abortion and emergency care, and keep a national abortion ban from ever coming up for a vote. Reproductive Freedom for All will work with the majority to pass a federal abortion rights and access bill, end abortion coverage bans like the Hyde Amendment, protect access to contraception, and build a future where reproductive freedom is a reality for everybody.
